Scrub Jay and Lots of Robins!

I actually have a post for Stewart's Wild Bird Wednesday!  Check out his wonderful meme.  Since we moved in, we have been astounded with the number of robins we are seeing in often minus-degree weather!  They love the juniper berries on our trees.  We have seen a few other birds we still need to identify including this sweet (I believe) Western Scrub Jay:

Just a quick update for those following our progress in what has decidedly become the "frozen north"....we have been snowed in since the day we moved into our house, 30 December.  Not realizing this would be the case, we had not prepared properly.  Needless to say, a ham that had been delivered (a gift from a friend) before we moved in and saved for us by our neighbor, "saved our bacon" so to speak.  By yesterday that was gone, we were out of milk, bread, eggs and really anything remotely edible.  Our dear sweet real estate agent had offered to help us with her four-wheel-drive truck and she came yesterday and took us to the grocery store.  She couldn't come into our driveway with her vehicle (see photo below) and you can imagine how difficult it was the get the groceries from her truck into the house on foot!  She is an angel!  She had to drive from an hour away to come do this, and we are so grateful!  There have been many instances of kindness through this, when he have gotten our vehicle stuck, etc.  Our nextdoor neighbor Jim is a particularly kind man, pulling us out, shoveling gravel under our wheels.  He gave us the number of a neighbor boy to help us out....also see photos below (and note the depth of the snow!)  The Farmer's Almanac says this will pass by the end of January, and I trust it explicitly!  In the meantime, we have a WONDERFUL warm house to be in, and can watch the birds from the windows.  I have a lot of unpacking left to do.  We can't see the kids still for a while, but all of this will be over soon....

Our driveway was cleared with a neighbor's snowplow just three days before this photo was taken.  As we walked out, it was almost knee-deep.

Our main car is in the garage...this is the poor T-bird!

Thank goodness for some young, strong help....I've been so worried about the weight of the snow on the deck!
